Above: Bill Gates, he’s retired
It has been mad clear and it is official that in 2008 Bill Gates will retire from his day job position of chief software architect of Microsoft, being founder of Microsoft that company he has formed three decades ago.
There will be a gradual transition Gates say as he intends to leave things smoothly as he leaves his work over the two men who will assume the position who are Craig Mundie and Ray Ozzie who have been declared chief research, chief software and strategy officer.
In a news conference Gates said, “Except for a little vacation this summer that’s longer than normal, I’ll be working as hard as I ever have over the next two years,”
Though he’ll be reassuring effecting succession with the turnover, Gates will not be spending as much in his company as he used to right after Ozzie and Mundie will officially be reporting to Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO) next year.
However, Gates expressed that he has no plans of giving up his position as chairman of the board of directors of Microsoft. He said, . “I don’t see a time in the future when I won’t be chairman of this company,” he added, “I see myself as always being the largest shareholder in Microsoft. Steve is the second largest, and I think we both take a lot of pride in that.”
The sudden turn of events was due to Gates desire to devote more of his time in his role as chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which he has high hopes and confidence that the Foundation will grow significantly as an active entity towards promotion in innovation, global health and education.
Gates expressed uncertainty on how it would be like to leave Microsoft, “I don’t know what it will feel like not to come in here every day and work for 10 hours,” he said. “It’s a little bit of an unknown there. I’ll see what that’s like when I get there.”
Gates remained enthusiastic even after announcing his retirement that Microsoft future is in good hands.

Sad to see Bill Gates go into retirement. In my opinion, he was and still is the brightest mind in the past 30 years of microsoft’s legacy. A man that could buy a basic program for $50,000, and turn it into dos and make billions. Is pure buisness and programing genious.
On that note enjoy retirement Bill. Your creative smarts will be missed. O please do not let retirement stop you from advancing xbox A.I. into android applications for public protection.
